Skin, cameras, and the green problem
Green is the brightest per watt and the worst on a face.
Human vision is tuned to greenish-yellow — the photopic sensitivity curve peaks around 555 nanometers — so green light looks brightest per watt. But faces evolved under sunlight and firelight, and green light on skin reads sick: it emphasizes exactly the tones we read as illness. Amber, magenta, and pink push skin the flattering direction. That's the whole skin rule.
Cameras make it worse. Many LED sources carry a green spike that cameras exaggerate; the film world corrects with magenta (“minus green”) filtration. And the old color-quality number, CRI, was designed for interiors, not entertainment — the IES's TM-30 standard (2015, updated 2018) measures color fidelity and gamut with 99 sample colors instead of CRI's handful. If a crowd cam or livestream matters, your fixtures' color quality is part of your look.
